Assessment - Assignment Example This theory postulates that early stages of human development through the adolescent stage are highly determined by nurture and nature aspects in relation to the socialization process. The cognitive theory, on the other hand, focuses on an individualââ¬â¢s thoughts and behaviours. This is what marks it as a personality theory. This is because thoughts determine individualââ¬â¢s emotions and behaviours. Most cognitive theorists explain this philosophy metaphysically that individuals who lack emotions and behaviours could not function (Thomas, 2001). This is a value laden assumption of the theory, which can easily be explained rather philosophically than scientifically. In conclusion, cognitive theory is much more inclined towards the Christian perceptive of human development explanations. This is because it postulates that thoughts often come first before any actions or feelings. This could only be in the spiritual world, which is a more appropriate environment for a Christian believer. Christians strongly believe in the existence of the supernatural forces behind an individualââ¬â¢s social actions through his or her beliefs. After discussion about these theories, I conclude by postulating a question that is the belief that a leaderââ¬â¢s rate of success depends on the way different people

British petroleum Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
British petroleum - Essay Example Some of the brands of the company are ARCO, Castrol, and Wild Bean Cafà ©. When companies show balance sheets for the group and for the company they are reporting the income of a subsidiary that is part of a parent company. The group balance sheet is the result of the entire company. The company is a subsidiary that reflects the result of a business segment of the firm. The financial statements of British Petroleum illustrated in its latest annual report only reflect the results of the group or the parent company. The assets minus liability equation can be interpreted as a liquidity ratio. A more specific evaluation of short term liquidity would occur by subtracting the current assets against the current liabilities. The accounting equation states that assets equal liabilities plus stockholders equity (Cliffnotes, 2012). The straight line method is calculated dividing cost minus salvage value by depreciation time. ââ¬Å"The declining balance depreciation method uses the depreciable basis of an asset multiplied by a factor based on the life of the assetâ⬠(Assetaide, 2009). The use of an alternative method of depreciation such as double declining would increase the expenses of the company in the early years, thus the profitability of the company would be lower in the short term. Stewardship accounting refers to, ââ¬Å"A traditional approach of accounting that places an obligation on stewards or agents, such as directors, to provide relevant and reliable financial information relating to resources over which they have control but which are owned by others, such as shareholdersâ⬠(Williamson, 2002). There are several factors that affect the price of common stocks. The prices of stocks are influenced by the general state of the economy, the financial performance of a company as illustrated in its financial statements, and by political factors among other reasons. If I was a potential investor of British Petroleum I would be very satisfied with

The Baptism of Pocahontas by John Gadsby Chapman Essay
The Baptism of Pocahontas by John Gadsby Chapman - Essay Example Both "The Warning of Powhatan" and "The Crowning of Powhatan" were displayed at the National Academy of Design in New York in the year 1836. His Landing at Jamestown and The Crowning of Powhatan were later imprinted in the 1840s for accepted magazines. Chapman's companion Henry Alexander Wise had set up a decree in the United States House of Representatives in the year 1834 to structure a committee to choose American artists to complete the United States Capitol Rotunda cycle commenced by John Trumbull. On 28 February 1837 the Select Committee opted Robert Weir, John Vanderlyn, Henry Inman, and John G. Chapman to paint sight from American history. According to his agreement, Chapman entertained $10,000 in four payments. The completed painting, The Baptism of Pocahontas, was revealed on 30 November 1840 and was escorted by a leaflet elucidating the artist's approach to the theme and a concise history of Pocahontas as well as the Jamestown colony. John Gadsby Chapman sought to use the Jamestown legend as a paradigm of the confrontation between English settlers and Native Americans. His Baptism of, installed in the U.S. Capitol rotunda in 1840, combined historical mythmaking, concerns about the fate of the "noble savage," and respect for the Virginia heritage. Like Custis, the artist had deep roots in the Virginia soil; his father, Charles, came from an old Prince William County family; his maternal grandfather, John Gadsby, owned the famous Alexandria tavern that is now a Virginia landmark. Born near there in 1808, Chapman grew up with Mount Vernon and its powerful Washington legacy a few miles to the south and the newly constructed federal city taking shape upriver on the Potomac. Both were to have a profound effect on his future ambitions. During a brief and futile attempt to study law in Winchester, Virginia, he formed a close friendship with future Virginia congressman and Governor Henry Alexander Wise2. In 1828, the youn g artist toured Europe, there enriching his artistic education while making friends with such notables as James Fenimore Cooper, Samuel F.B. Morse, and the sculptor Horatio Greenough. Chapman might have taken advantage of such influential friends to help him launch his career in New York upon his return in 1831. Instead he chose to settle in Virginia, where he eked out scant living painting portraits. (Alexandria Gazette, 1832) During his youth, Chapman had witnessed the rebuilding of the Capitol after its destruction during the War of 1812 and had later watched John Trumbull install his four Revolutionary War paintings in the rotunda. Hoping one day to create a similar "national picture" for the Capitol, he began to contact influential politicians and exhibit his paintings around the District of Columbia3. By this time, Chapman had moved to New York City, where he was establishing a creditable reputation as a printmaker and illustrator. As soon as he returned home, the artist began painting episodes from the Pocahontas saga, the first being two small canvases -- The Coronation of Powhatan and The Warning of Pocahontas -- which he exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1836. In 1837, he composed his own version of the famous rescue scene, Pocahontas Saving the Life of Captain John Smith and between 1839 and 1841; he

An Analysis of US Commercial Banking Sector of USAs Banking Industry Essay
An Analysis of US Commercial Banking Sector of USAs Banking Industry - Essay Example It is evident from the study that strong rumour is haunting the global banking industry that another banking crisis may spearhead in the wake of recent crisis in EU, and that may impact US banking industry also. In response to the scenario in Europe, the financial markets in US are demonstrating mounting signs of risk aversion and volatility. The outcome of the 2008 financial turmoil has prolonged to weigh on the recovery of economy; the credit rate downgrade and the recent debt ceiling fiasco have surmounted anxieties of financial volatility. Nonetheless, the US commercial banks as compared to their counterparts in Europe have more expanded portfolios and retain a much lesser share of government bonds. Moreover, US government backing and deposit insurance offer a vibrant backbone in the case of future bank failures as depositors prolong to have confidence in the capability of the US government to meet its commitments if there is a run -on -banks. This can be corroborated from the co ntemporary extreme low treasury yields. Commercial banking can be described as fiscal mediators with towering leverage, i.e. a comparatively higher ratio of short-term debt in the guise of deposits with a moderately little portion of equity. Large number of individual customers and business might have contributed the deposits to the bank. Thus, so pooled funds of commercial banks are accustomed to advance loans to individuals and businesses. (Iannotta 2010:2) In USA, commercial banks are institutions, which function as a financial mediator between borrowers and savers ââ¬â thus, grouping the savings of many depositors and lending the same to eligible borrowers. Commercial banks thrive with a little margin as there will not much difference between the interest rate paid to the depositors and interest rate charged to the borrowers. To minimise the risk, commercial banks have established loan

Environmental law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 1
Environmental law - Essay Example Along with the passing of an enabling statute, there is also the power to investigate violations of rules and judicial power to adjudicate disputes an agency may have with individuals or businesses (Kubasek & Silverman, 2000). Administrative agencies have three ways of making rules: informal, formal and hybrid ones ââ¬â all governed by the Administrative Procedure Act (APA). In informal rule making, an agency starts the process by publishing the proposed law in the Federal Register, together with a justification of the legal power for issuing the law. It also describes how people can be part of the rule making procedure, and invites those interested in submitting written comments. The agency then evaluates the comments and publishes the adopted law in the Federal Register. It bears a statement of its purpose and the date it becomes effective. Formal rule making occurs when an enabling statute stipulates that all regulations be passed by an agency as part of a formal inquiry process that includes an official transcript. The process starts in the same way as the informal one. However, it also includes a public hearing where witnesses give testimonies on advantages and disadvantages of the proposed law. A transcript of the hearing is maintained. An adopted law based on the received information is then published. Hybrid rule making combines the best features of informal and formal rule making in an attempt to minimize their flaws. It starts with publishing the proposed law in the Federal Register followed by informal public hearings and a restricted cross examination of witnesses. The adopted laws are then published. Administrative agencies have had a positive impact on local living environments. For instance, the EPA sets rules limiting the level of hazardous air pollutants an industry may emit into the atmosphere (Kubasek & Silverman,

Guns in Students' Hands Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Guns in Students' Hands - Essay Example The debate has attracted left wing and right thinkers who have their reasons to abort or support carrying guns in school. The complexity that borders this debate is that rules that guide institutions defers from one state to another (Korones). Some states allow people to carry concealed weapons while others do not allow. However, the daunting task in this essay is debate on this issue by considering either side of the argument. While many some people feel that carrying a gun is a constitutional right, it has negative impact among students. American universities sometimes witness violent crimes because of personal differences that some students harbor. Carrying guns to campuses would aggravate the state of such violence in college. Many pro gun advocates feel that handling college crimes require a weapon, which can protect an individual from her or his detractors (Hanford). The proposal seems to create more problems than solving the issue of crime increase in institution. I believe th at no person would sit back and wait for legal redress in an event, which attract heated debate. Psychologists acknowledge the difference in temperament of people as shaped by environmental factor during childhood. Aggressive behavior that one develops when in early stages of development can have devastating effects at later stages in life. Apparently, many college students are either in their late teenage or early adulthood. Pressure associated with groupings usually aggravate students aggression and may act contrary to the provisions of law in order to win views of his colleagues (Korones). This leaves no room for weapon in colleges because the intention of a student against a fellow student might not be predictable. It is impractical to assume that students would uphold moral standards set by colleges when clear differences are evident during debates and other college activities. When guns get their way into colleges or campuses, the education facility might fail to deliver its m andate (Harnisch). The shooting in lecture hall is clear evidence that lectures might not accept a debate over issues that are controversial in the society. Failure to exhaust issues touching on a particular topic compromises education standards. Learning institution delivers its duty by elaborating or issues while taking a middle ground. Everyone is aware about the long stretch to equality in the United States. I believe that the society has information pertaining to slavery and atrocities associated to slavery. Debating such issues in college is likely to influence thinking of a college student. Some stories about the past evident in American history evoke emotions depending on which side one would take. Such emotions may spill into the society when proper measures are not in place to control student reactions. Evidently, lectures do not have the burden of evaluating the behavior of a student in campus or control private issues of a student. Campuses should be free from guns in or der to allow conclusive debates to take place. I believe that a person will be free to debate exhaustively when he or she is free than when under the influence of an impending danger. Guns in the hands of students might comprise public safety when student riot (Hanford). Rioting in campus is not a strange occurrence. Many reasons contribute to differences experienced in colleges. College students engage in college

Apply effective communications techniques in a simulated interaction, Essay
Apply effective communications techniques in a simulated interaction, using appropriate tone and grammar - Essay Example One of the reasons that you are able to motivate the workers is due to your great leadership skills. Leadership can be defined as establishing direction and influencing others to follow that direction (Cliffnotes, 2013). Your leadership abilities have helped guide the company in the right direction. People with great leadership abilities are able to motivate the staff to achieve a higher level of performance that translates in greater productivity at the firm. Despite all your strengths as a manager there are areas in which you can improve in order to become a better leader. I have noticed that you barely ever ask for the input of the employees and that you always seem to want to do a wide variety of work tasks alone. A way for you to become a better leader is by having more confidence in the employees. This can be achieved by delegating responsibilities to the floor employees. The use of delegation increases the job satisfaction of employees because the workers feel that the company believes in their abilities to performed different work
